Society is dramatically changing due to COVID-19, digitalization and aging society with a declining birthrate. Along with this, the needs of passengers are also diversifying, and transport operators are facing major changes. With digital technology, Hitachi provides the solutions for cost reduction, sales increase, and convenience improvement while introducing new transport solutions to realize comfortable and reliable mobility service.
Smart Life Business Improves People's QoL
The environment surrounding people's lives has changed drastically in the last few years, such as the progress of an aging society with a declining birthrate, the development of advanced medical care, the establishment of a New Normal, and the transition to a sustainable society triggered by climate change. In this category, we will introduce our efforts to realize a society where each one of us can live in safety, security, health and comfort through Smart Life businesses.
The automotive industry has entered a once-in-a-century revolutionary era, against the backdrop of technological innovation known as "CASE," and the switch to electric vehicles (EVs) is rapidly progressing with the aim to further reduce environmental burden and improve safety and comfort. In this theme, we will introduce initiatives to realize a safe, comfortable, and environmentally friendly mobility life, such as visualization of the remaining performance of lithium-ion batteries that power EVs and the connected car platform that support the shift to EV mobility.
Demand for semiconductor devices is rapidly increasing due to the practical application of AI, capital investment in data centers associated with 5G support, and the “stay-at-home demand” affected by COVID-19. In order to respond to this market environment, Hitachi provides semiconductor manufacturing solutions that meet customer needs such as high productivity, cost reduction, and shorter development period, and realizes a production system that maintains a stable supply chain. We contribute to our customers' cutting-edge research and development and mass production and provide new value.
The medical and healthcare sector is experiencing major changes in the environment in which it operates, including an aging society, rising cost of public healthcare, extension of healthy life expectancy, and development of advanced medical care. Hitachi creates new value to the medical field and contributes to improving people's Quality of Life by providing particle therapy systems that realize minimally invasive cancer treatment and medical innovation utilizing the latest digital technology.
As the number of double-income households increases, there is an ever-increasing demand for shorter working hours, labor saving, and efficiency regarding housework. Also, care of the elderly alone has become a major social challenge. To solve these challenges, Hitachi provides life solutions that make people's new lifestyles more comfortable, such as connected home appliances that support routine housework and family-type robots that support lively daily life as well as both physical and mental health.
The manufacturing industry has undergone major changes due to COVID-19. Along with this, the management perspective of customers has also changed, and “Environment”, “Resilience”, and “Security & Safety” have become important keywords. Furthermore, issues of “boundaries” - the gap between companies and organizations - have emerged due to accelerating DX. Hitachi solves customers' “boundaries” issues and contributes to the enhancement of the value of the customer's business by providing total seamless solutions for overall optimization using digital technology with robotic SI connected all the way from the factory site to the management team.
In the manufacturing industry, which is currently going through a transformation with DX, it's necessary to challenge new initiatives and create business value by quickly thinking outside the box.
Hitachi's Lumada and total seamless solutions, filled with accumulated track records and knowhow, realize the optimized customer business from a management perspective. Our solutions digitally connect factory sites and management team in the supply chain so that they can respond to changes in diversified market needs and create new business value.
Due to the worldwide spread of COVID-19, the conventional supply chain has been disrupted, and there is now a demand for resilient logistics and the provision of security and safety at logistics sites. By utilizing digital information that can be obtained from the supply chain that connects consumers, delivery, retail, distribution centers, production plants, and procurement, Hitachi solves problems by improving distribution center operations and streamlining transportation and delivery operations and contributes to the realization of a flexible and sustainable supply chain.
In these days, the retail industry needs to respond the customer's needs quickly.
Hitachi creates new value for the retail industry by digitally utilizing and analyzing the data obtained from the value chain. Through collaborative creation, the data will be used for analyzing demand and supply, customer's needs, and sales strategies. The data will also be useful for increasing employees' motivation due to improved work style and efficiency. Furthermore, Hitachi believes the data will be helpful for environment and community.
Hitachi contributes the improving retail brand image and sales figure.
The need for automation and resource saving operation is rapidly increasing at manufacturing and logistics sites due to COVID-19. Hitachi proposes a factory that has evolved through connecting robotic automation and digital solutions from the concept design phase of automation lines.
Energy Innovation to Achieve Decarbonization and Stable Supply
Against the backdrop of the U.S. return to the Paris Agreement and the declaration of carbon neutrality in Japan and other countries around the world, the transformation of the energy system through innovations is underway to comprehensively address environmental, economic, and social issues toward decarbonization.
On the other hand, the rapid changes brought about by COVID-19 have made energy issues more complex, and there is a need to enhance resilience to cope with unanticipated situations and changes in society. This category will introduce our efforts to solve various energy supply and demand issues, divided into the theme of Decarbonization and Stable Energy Supply.
To accelerate solutions to the challenges of decarbonization in the energy sector, we have provided various solutions that contribute to improving green energy efficiency and decarbonization by using advanced digital technology.
In this theme, we will introduce cutting-edge technology to realize a carbon-neutral society, including various renewable energy solutions such as interconnection of power systems, long-distance transmission to large demand areas, and power semiconductors that support decarbonization.
Due to the effects of climate change and weather-related disasters caused by global warming, it is essential to have solutions that strengthen resilience in the energy sector for the safety and security of people's lives.
In this theme, we will introduce our efforts to realize a safe and secure society using Hitachi's advanced digital technologies, such as facility inspection with AI and support DX at maintenance sites.
Furthermore, we will introduce our measures against climate change, which has become an issue in recent years.
Society Co-created with Digital Technology
As society changes with the New Normal, we also need to change our corporate culture and business and create new value in collaboration with various stakeholders at the core, not just as an extension of conventional business and business improvement. To do that, it is important to extract new insights from the data and put them into practice both on the site and in the management.
Hitachi creates new value by promoting DX through collaborative creation with customers and partners by combining data analysis and digital technology/IT professionals. In this category, we will introduce the key to DX success obtained through actual experiences and use-cases.
In recent years, with the occurrence of unpredictable events such as natural disasters and pandemics, as well as the diversification of people's values and needs, the challenges faced by society and customers have become increasingly complex and are difficult for a single company to solve. Under these circumstances, Open Innovation and Collaborative Creation efforts in which stakeholders with various knowledge cooperate with each other are indispensable for solving complex issues and realizing a sustainable society.
In this theme, we will introduce places, specific initiatives, and results from creating value through Open Innovation and Collaborative Creation.
As the government and society has begun to move toward the creation of new value with digitalization, there is a need for data-driven management. Rather than just digitizing business, it is necessary to promote corporate transformation utilizing data with DX.
